Seriously??!!

So the wind today was unreal. It started overnight, and got progressively worse. By the time I was heading to work at 1pm the wind was 89km/hr with gusts up to 105km/hr. I had a hard time walking from the car to the college, because the parking lot was so icy. I was blown backwards a few times.

The forecast said it would be up to 110km/hr, but I don't know if it reached that or not, but 105 was enough for me!

The biggest problem is that I can't sleep when it's really windy, so I am tired. I am also getting up at 4:30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays to go to the gym, which doesn't help.  I am getting so old!

Fernie Weekend!

Last weekend our group of friends went on the annual Fernie ski weekend. They rent a huge condo, and John & I got our own place, because we were going later than the others. We got there at 7:30pm on Friday, and stayed up dancing and talking until about 2:30am. John got up in the morning to ski. He took lessons again, and feels a lot more comfortable on skis now. He was able to do the blue runs this year, without any issues. Next year it'll be blacks and double diamonds!

I had an essay to write, so I just hung out at the condo for the day. We were part of the dinner crew on Saturday. John made lasagna, and  I  made some clafoutis & a lemon shimmer cheesecake. Yum! We stayed up until about 1am on Sat night. In the evening we all went for a sleigh ride, which was neat. Belgian horses were used to pull the sleigh.

All in all, it was a lot of fun, as usual. The highlight was a choreographed wrestling match between Courtney & Sean. It was hilarious to watch!

More Puppy Pics

Here are a few more pictures of Vikki. She is so cute! It's going to be so hard to let her go. I have a great video of Molly & Vikki playing, so I'll try to add that when I have more time.

This is Lethbridge??!

We've had so much snow this winter. I know it doesn't seem like much compared to other places, but it's a lot for Lethbridge. There's no place to put it anymore, so it's just piling up now. The city is trying to manage it, but many streets are still not clear. The wind doesn't help either. Friends of ours who were away for the holidays had to hire 2 men to clear their front walk, because the wind had made it as hard as concrete. It took the guys 5 hours to get it clear. Unbelievable!

Here are some pictures of our neighbourhood, taken today.

Vikki/Copper

We picked up our new foster dog today. Her name is Vikki, but I prefer Copper, so that's what I'm calling her. She must have some collie in her. She is as cute as they get. I love her already. Fortunately

she had an adoption application submitted within 12 minutes of her pictures so we know we have to give her up. It'll be tough though. She's a great little dog. She doesn't pester Molly much, she doesn't bark much, and she is SO CUTE!

She also likes to sleep in the closet, which is unbearably adorable. She's tired right now, and is trying to settle enough to nap. Back in the closet!

She and another older pup were found on the reserve on Jan 1st. There's another dog, a boxer, who has been abused, and they can't get her to come to them. They are leaving food, and going back to her regularly to see if they can convince her to come with them. Otherwise, with the weather we're having, she may die. Poor dog. Little Copper is quite healthy, loves food, and weighs 19lbs!  We call her chunky puppy.

It's cold here again, and we don't have a coat small enough for the little pup, so she's wearing one of Molly's. It's more like a full length robe on her!  Pretty cute though, and it doesn't seem to bother her.

New Year!

We hosted New Year's Eve this year, as our friends that normally do were away until the 30th. We made lots of food, some of which didn't turn out well. We had to throw out the tempeh pate, because we made a miscalculation on the amount of tempeh, so it was too strong. We also made clafoutis which we forgot to serve. John made little parmesan cones that were filled with bean mousse, and those were amazing. I made an eggnog cake that was kind of neat. Fortunately we have our Fernie weekend on Jan 15th, so we can use up the freezable leftovers then.

Mom has been here for more than 2 weeks now, and will be leaving on the 6th. Unfortunately, because of the weather, we haven't done too much. There certainly hasn't been any traveling outside of Lethbridge. She's going to come back in the summer, so hopefully we can do more then. We did see two plays, and the museum. Hopefully we can make it to the art gallery tomorrow.

Anyway, that's it for 2008! Welcome to 2009. We wish you all a very Happy New Year, and health and happiness always.
