Caught Up!

OK, so I finally am caught up with all the postings for this year so far. I should be able to keep up to date from now on. Although I have to work on my thesis, I don't have classes this fall, except for TAing. I'm hoping that means I have more time to share what's going on here.

I'm making curtains at the moment for the bedroom. We go to bed so early that it's still light when we go to bed. I need something darker to keep the light out. I'll post pictures once they are up, which should be in the next day or two.

Coeur d'Alene

John, Jennifer & Wim all competed in the half marathon at Coeur d'Alene in Idaho while the rest of us were at Lobsterfest. They did really well. Jennifer finished in 1:53, John in 1:54, and Wim in 2:01. Poor Wim was in serious knee pain part way through, but completed the race nonetheless Good job, and congratulations to all three!

Hopefully next year I'll be able to compete too. I wanted to do it this year, but still haven't recovered my energy level yet. I am riding more regularly, but still don't have enough energy to run.

Carrot Cake Lessons!

Our friend Stefan is from Germany. He was here on a teaching contract, but had to go home last week. We were all really sad to see him go, as he is such a great guy. He'll be back for our Fernie trip tough.

Before he left he wanted to learn how to make carrot cake, so he came over for some lessons. We had a lot of fun making it, although I was disappointed that I couldn't eat the finished product. He did a great job with it, and everyone loved it.  He even cleaned up after!

Lobsterfest!

Courtney belongs to Rotary, so some of us went to Lobsterfest. John, Jennifer & Wim were in Coeur d'Alene (Idaho) competing in a half marathon. See next post for info on that.  In the meantime, we had fun without them. I think those who had lobster really enjoyed it, and my steak was nicely BBQ'd as well.

Hester was enjoying playing with the scarf. Jay & Michelle were having fun, As were Melanie & Stefan. Sarah's Mom Nancy came too as she was in town. She won  door prize - $100 at G3, a local clothing store! Carly, Jay & Quinn also had fun, despite the woman who chastised Carly for having Quinn out in public instead of at home.  What?!

Splash, Pedal, Gasp

John competed in his first triathlon in May. He did really well, finishing in 1:29. Unfortunately, he had a collision in the pool and ended up with a black eye. He thinks he got someone's shoulder in the eye as both were passing in the pool. It healed really quickly, but he still has a little mark just below the eye.

I think he enjoyed himself, although he did say it was hard.

I volunteered at the swim. I'm glad I did, because if I can ever get back into shape I'd like to try that race. Now I feel a lot more comfortable about how the swim portion works.

Hester couldn't compete because she was having PRK that week, so she volunteered as well.

Edie, Take 2

Edie was returned from the first adoptive family. We were looking after her again temporarily when another family wanted to adopt her. I did the home visit, and they seemed like nice people. They have an Australian Shepherd named Amber who will be Edie's big sister.  We had to give her away a second time. That may be the first time that's happened. It was heartbreaking for us to see her go again.

When I brought her home again Molly was so excited to see her. She was so happy! They started playing again right away. I think they both wondered what was going on, why they'd been separated for a couple of weeks.

She is a very cute dog. We really hope it works out this time for the little pup.

If you look closely at the pictures, there's one where it looks like the little dog is smoking!

Snow's Back!

Ugh, this is April! Boo! It actually didn't get warm until just a week or two ago. Hopefully the summer will last a long time. Like November, for example!

Edie, Take 1

This is Edie, anther foster dog. She was very cute, but pretty high maintenance! She had a lot of energy, and not a lot of guidance until now. Fortunately she & Molly got along well, until she jumped on Molly while she was sleeping. That earned her a big snap. She ran away in  a big hurry!

She was adopted by a young couple, but their dog was too stressed and so she came back into foster care. Poor little Edie.
